Dr Rajesh Rajendran is a Consultant Microbiologist & Infection Control Doctor based in Cheshire. He is also Clinical lead and Laboratory director for the Pathology department.
He has a vast experience in management of infections and in infection prevention and control including antimicrobial stewardship and resistance.
He is actively involved in the day-to-day management Health Care associated infections like Cdifficle and MRSA. He also has expertise in management of communicable diseases like TB and other tropical infections. His expert in diagnosis of infection, and is a specialist in Infection control within acute Hospital Trust in the NHS and in the community which includes contact tracing for communicable diseases and expert advice on community infection control.
His special interests include Clostridium difficile and was active in the introduction of routine culture of Clostridium difficile and subsequent ribotyping for infection control and surveillance.
He is actively involved in Antibiotic Stewardship, including the development of evidence-based guidelines conducting antibiotic ward rounds and participating in surveillance and audits as prescribed by the DoH on antibiotic consumption to reduce antibiotic resistance.
Being an infection control doctor he would have to ensure that standards are maintained within Health care settings on all aspects of decontamination, sterilization of instruments and scopes and maintain theatre standards and ensure water quality and food quality for patients and health care.
