The Practice was formed in 2012 with the overriding principle and ethos of improving patient safety and healthcare standards by way of independent expert investigation and clinical analysis from active medical, nursing and allied professionals in all areas of healthcare practice.
Today, we provide independent expert reviews and analysis for healthcare providers, medical indemnity insurance companies and claimant and defendant law firms.
Our independent clinical review strategy ensures that where allegations or complaints have been made against a healthcare provider or a clinician, their validity can be independently clinically assessed and the following conclusions can be drawn:
(i) For matters where substandard care has been identified our independent review clearly establishes what has occurred alongside providing detailed clinical analysis and reactive data analytics to enable healthcare providers to clearly identify and manage their clinical risk, thereby improving patient safety and preventing error recurrence.
(ii) Where substandard care does not exist, our reviews aim to provide the patient (and their family) with a form of closure through clear explanation and assurances allowing them to better understand the clinical outcome.
Our Independent Clinical Review Strategy
Our unique clinical review pathway ensures that matters of substandard care can be identified quickly and clinical learning developed to prevent recurrence of those incidents and ultimately improve patient safety.
(i) Preliminary Fixed Fee Investigation: TMLEP's preliminary clinical analysis ensures matters of potential substandard care can be fully investigated and determined at the earliest possible stage, expediting a conclusion of a complaint or claim. This level of review can be used as an independent SI or to assist with the drafting of a Pre-action Protocol Letter of Claim/Letter of Response. This report is not provided with the intention of being used for disclosure, unless on a without prejudice basis.
(ii) Further Review: As a complaint or claim progresses beyond a preliminary review, further opinions can be sought to include the provision of CPR complaint reports, attendance at conferences, attendance at court, amongst other things. All further services are provided on a fixed fee basis.
(iii) Clinical Learning and Patient Safety: Where requested, following on from the provision of an independent review, TMLEP's data analysis allows healthcare providers to better manage and understand their clinical risk with the overall aim to prevent recurrence and improve patient safety.
By following our clear fixed fee clinical investigation strategy this helps achieve early cost effective and efficient resolution for all parties.
For matters where substandard care is identified our investigations help reduce unnecessary future costs relating to incident recurrence.
